The Brief
The London reception formed part of a wider programme of alumni events taking place across a number of international cities.
With the firm’s marketing team based in Australia and no dedicated events resource in London, they needed an experienced local event partner who could take ownership of the planning and delivery on their behalf.
This included sourcing and securing trusted local suppliers, managing venue and supplier relationships, and overseeing the operational detail required to deliver the reception in London.
The brief was for a sophisticated but relaxed evening, giving partners the opportunity to reconnect with alumni while introducing the firm’s new identity through a combination of hospitality, conversation and presentations.

Acting as the firm’s London event lead, I worked directly with the marketing team in Australia, taking ownership of the planning and delivery of the London reception.
With no events team based in the UK, I provided the local expertise and leadership needed to move the project forward, from venue selection and site visits through to sourcing trusted London suppliers and managing the event through to delivery. Regular communication and clear decision-making kept the Australian team closely connected to the project without requiring them to manage the detail remotely.
For the reception itself, McDonnell Marketing provided two experienced London-based event managers, personally selected, briefed and managed by me, to lead the onsite delivery and represent the client throughout the evening.
Originally planned for approximately 100 guests, attendance reached around 120. The increased numbers were accommodated seamlessly, and the reception was delivered to an excellent standard, allowing the firm’s partners to focus entirely on their guests.

The reception welcomed around 120 guests, exceeding the original attendance expectations, and was extremely well received by both the Australian marketing team and the partners hosting the event.
For the client, the value went beyond the event itself. With no events team based in the UK, they had an experienced London partner taking ownership locally, giving the Australian team confidence that the reception would be delivered to the standard expected while they focused on the wider international programme.
The success of the event demonstrated a model that works particularly well for international organisations: senior event leadership, trusted local expertise and a delivery team built around the requirements of the event.
